The IMOCA Open 60 racing boats are high performance, designed primarily for racing solo and couples. Several highly competitive races are done with these ships, such as the Sell Globe or the Barcelona World Race, La Route du Rhum and the Transat Jacques Vabre. As the name suggests, this class is “open” (open), meaning that there is a closed design that will be girding all boats. Only a “box rule” that allows any type of design that includes the use of new generation technologies is established. The main restriction is that which limits the length of the boats to 60 feet (18.29 meters). It is lightweight, powerful and with big plans sailing boats.
Usually consisting of large carbon-fiber frames (to be as lightweight yet tough as possible) and so deal with the difficult conditions of the South Seas. They are equipped with the most advanced navigation and communication systems.
Mainly to adjust the maximum possible weight, few concessions to comfort skipper performed.
